New England Institute of Addiction Studies & Adcare Educational Institute

AdCare Educational Institute and The New England Institute of Addiction Studies jointly host a Virtual Community. Both organizations are dedicated to providing services to those working in the field of substance abuse and other allied professionals as well as to those affected by substance abuse. Staff listed below have knowledge and expertise in examining issues surrounding underage alcohol use, policy development, program planning, and providing education and technical assistance to organizations and individuals on substance abuse related public health issues.

Youth Empowerment and Policy Project (YEPP)
Is an active and diverse group of youth from around the State of Maine focusing on program and policy issues regarding underage drinking. The group has developed several findings and recommendations documents and projects suitable for any youth group or coalition interested in a pro-active role in combating underage drinking in their community.

CARD ME
This program will provide liquor licensees with a "tool kit" to increase the business' ability to prevent illegal sales to minors and/or visibly intoxicated patrons. The tool kit will include a manual for managers, posters and tip sheets for employees, and a card to provide to patrons to explain why they are being carded (state law requires it for those who appear to be under 27 years of age). A community involvement component includes "Thank You for Carding" recognition cards individuals may present to licensees they observe being responsible vendors.

Maine Alcohol Impact Coalition
MAIC is a growing statewide coalition of organizations, programs, agencies, and individuals concerned that the funding for Maine's substance abuse prevention, treatment and enforcement programs is too low and too volatile.

Maine Association of Prevention Programs (MAPP)
MAPP is a grassroots network created in 1999 to provide an advocacy voice for substance abuse prevention. Our primary functions are to advocate at the Maine State Legislature and to educate the general public regarding the need and benefit of substance abuse prevention activities.

Maine Prevention Calendar

This calendar represents the coordinated efforts of the Maine prevention and health promotion programs such as Communities for Children and Youth, Office of Substance Abuse, Bureau of Health, Healthy Maine Partnerships, Maine Youth Suicide Prevention and more. Maine Parents
The Maine Office of Substance Abuse offers resources to help you to monitor your teen for underage use with five tips. We also offer some information about how your own behavior can sometimes influence your teen's decisions about alcohol - even without your realizing it.

Maine Inhalant Abuse Prevention Task Force
The Maine Office of Substance Abuse, in partnership with the New England Inhalant Abuse Prevention Coalition, formed a statewide task force in order to identify the nature of the inhalant problem in Maine and recommend model prevention practices designed to reduce inhalant use.

A federal State Incentive Grant program funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This long-range prevention program system is to ensure that all State prevention resources fill identified gaps in prevention services targeting youth ages 12-17 throughout the State with science-based prevention programs.

Project AWARE

Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp

Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp is an annual five-day camp held at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone, Maine during the first week of August. The main focus of this camp is to deter students from using drugs and alcohol in the future by using a different approach: positive reinforcement. ATLC is designed to provide students, entering grades 8 or 9 in Aroostook County, with the opportunity to develop skills and attitudes that will prevent adolescent involvement with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
